The National Park Service Network To Freedom (NTF) consists of sites, locations with a verifiable connection to the Underground Railroad; programs, with educational and interpretive programming that pertain to the Underground Railroad; and facilities, either research, educational or interpretive centers. There are currently over 700 locations as part of the network in 39 states, plus Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands.

The next map (below) offers a more refined selection of Network to Freedom sites, featuring those from the various regional essays in the new Underground Railroad handbook, along with a few other notable escape sites.   Each custom marker contains some basic information about how to visit, along with images or short videos where available.  These markers are organized on the left hand column by their chronological relevance within each of the nine regional layers that to the various regions featured in the handbook.
