This event was organized as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/grandreview\" target=\"_blank\">Pennsylvania Grand Review<\/a>, which in <a href=\"http:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/grandreview\/2010\/11\/08\/grand-review-2010-press\/\" target=\"_blank\">early November 2010<\/a> commemorated Harrisburg\u2019s\u00a0decision in November 1865 to honor the African Americans who fought during the Civil War. While \u201cthe gathering was meant to educate attendees on how to research their ancestors,\u201d Carlisle <em> Sentinel<\/em> reporter Greg Gross explains that it \u201calso proved educational for\u201d \u00a0Dickinson College students and staff. Descendants brought old photographs, documents,<\/p>\n<p>and told interesting stories about the men who served in the United States Colored Troops.
