{"id":1122,"date":"2011-06-15T12:49:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-15T19:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cumberlandcivilwar.com\/?p=1122"},"modified":"2011-06-15T12:49:03","modified_gmt":"2011-06-15T19:49:03","slug":"primary-source-collection-lincoln-cemetery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/cumberland150\/primary-source-collection-lincoln-cemetery\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary Source Collection \u2013 Lincoln Cemetery"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal\">The former Lincoln Cemetery in Carlisle is now called <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps\/ms?hl=en&amp;gl=us&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;oe=UTF8&amp;msa=0&amp;msid=214923210427089848626.000489a439d8262c01a8c&amp;t=p&amp;source=embed&amp;z=8&amp;vpsrc=0&amp;iwloc=00048df53a453b2760fb0\" target=\"_blank\">Memorial Park<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal\">. \u00a0For many years after the Civil War, Lincoln Cemetery was the most significant graveyard in town holding former veterans of the United States Colored Troops (USCT). \u00a0In the 1970s, however, the mostly abandoned cemetery became the target of an urban redevelopment project. \u00a0Today, all that remains to commemorate those soldiers &#8211;whose remains are still in the ground underneath the park&#8211; is a <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal\" href=\"http:\/\/cumberlandcivilwar.com\/local-us-colored-troops\/\">plaque <\/a><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal\">and a series of wayside markers. \u00a0 Below you will find five short newspaper articles from the nineteenth century, documenting various burials at Lincoln Cemetery, including the Henry W. Spradley, whose remarkable story has been turned into the subject of a short documentary film, <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p-2AMUGgtqc&amp;feature=share&amp;list=UUuKz4eUTIdw6X2TxqCH_GbA\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Henry W.
