She said much was dictated but there were minimal written records. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been thinking about future historians and how they will capture our 21st century historical figures. \u00a0We are innundated with communication via tweets, facebook posts, blogs &amp; websites. \u00a0Will this plethora of information make research for historians easier or more difficult?<\/p>\n<p>Look at how Twitter is being used to track <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/blogs\/technology\/2012\/08\/twitter-political-index-tracks-obama-romney-sentiment\/\" target=\"_blank\">Obama &amp; Romney sentiment<\/a>\u00a0in the upcoming presidential election. \u00a0Most politicians have personal websites &amp; use social media to connect with their consituents. \u00a0I&#8217;m sure we will see lower voter turnout in the next eletion that people who actually <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/BarackObama\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;follow&#8221;<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Mitt-Romney-for-President-2012\/201030002479\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;like&#8221;<\/a> Presidential candidates on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, what is your written legacy? \u00a0I know very little about my grandparents &amp; great grandparents and often wish my ancestors left written diaries for myself and my family to read and explore. \u00a0Have any of you purposefully started a blog or diary to convey personal or family history to future generations? \u00a0The only thing I record are small anecdotes in cookbooks. \u00a0After trying a recipe- I love to share who I made the meal for and if we liked it or not. \u00a0Perhaps listening to Catherine Clinton&#8217;s assessment of how there is such minimal written information for Harriet Tubman may have sparked the same refecltion in you. \u00a0What is your story and how will future generations remember you?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/responsive\/files\/2012\/08\/harriet_tubman.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-439\" src=\"http:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/responsive\/files\/2012\/08\/harriet_tubman-181x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"181\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/civilwar\/files\/2012\/08\/harriet_tubman-181x300.jpg 181w, https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/civilwar\/files\/2012\/08\/harriet_tubman.jpg 351w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 181px) 100vw, 181px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the past few days I have been thinking ahout Catherine Clinton&#8217;s guest lecture on Harriet Tubman. \u00a0In the beginning of the lecture Catherine indicated that her research proved to be challenging because Harriet Tubman didn&#8217;t leave a diary.
