Thanks to the University of the Pacific, her diary entries between 1855 and 1879 are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacific.edu\/Library\/Find\/Holt-Atherton-Special-Collections\/Digital-Collections\/Delia-Locke-Diaries.html\" target=\"_blank\">available online<\/a>. Locke not only recorded detailed observations about daily life, but she also commented on major political events. Abraham Lincoln\u2019s victory in the 1860 election was \u201cgood news,\u201d as <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcollections.pacific.edu\/u?\/locke,795\" target=\"_blank\">Locke noted<\/a> on November 16, 1860. Four years later she still supported Lincoln. Even though she could not vote, she had strong opinions about the candidates. While Lincoln \u201c[was] the representative of freedom,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalcollections.pacific.edu\/u?\/locke,904\" target=\"_blank\">Locke believed<\/a> that Democrat George McClellan represented \u201cslavery\u201d and led a political \u201cparty which [was] composed of traitors at heart.\u201d The University of the Pacific also has other <a href=\"http:\/\/library.pacific.edu\/ha\/digital\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\">interesting digital projects<\/a> to explore, including \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/library.pacific.edu\/ha\/digital\/muirjournals\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\">John Muir Journals<\/a>,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/library.pacific.edu\/ha\/digital\/muir\/index.asp\" target=\"_blank\">John Muir Photographs<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/library.pacific.edu\/ha\/digital\/japam\/collections.asp\" target=\"_blank\">several collections<\/a> related to Japanese-American Internment Camps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Delia Locke and her husband moved to northern California in 1855, she started a diary that she continued to write in until her death in 1922.
