Platter\u2019s diary <\/a>(Nov. 1864 \u2013 April 1865), which is available from the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/?Welcome\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Library of Georgia<\/a>, provides an account of his service with the 81st Ohio Infantry Volunteers as they marched through Georgia and the Carolinas with General William T. Sherman. This diary offers an interesting perspective on life as an officer throughout this campaign. \u201cWe are entirely cut off from communication with the north and are an isolated command,\u201d as <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/hargrett\/platter\/002.php\" target=\"_blank\">Platter wrote <\/a>on November 13, 1864. One can view the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/hargrett\/platter\/platter.php\" target=\"_blank\">entire diary <\/a>at once or select a specific section through the <a href=\"http:\/\/dlg.galileo.usg.edu\/hargrett\/platter\/toc.php\" target=\"_blank\">table of contents<\/a>.
