This also occurred in the 19th Century and some history students might be interested to see what editors said before the <a href=\"http:\/\/itech.dickinson.edu\/hd\/index.phpnode\/9599\">Dred Scott decision<\/a> was announced after President James Buchanan\u2019s inauguration in March 1857. Two months earlier the Washington <em>Union<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/itech.dickinson.edu\/hd\/index.phpnode\/124\">explained <\/a> that the Supreme Court had already reached \u201ca decision\u201d that held \u201cthe law of 1820 to be unconstitutional.\u201d In addition, the article also accurately noted that northern Justice Robert Grier would approve such a verdict.
