{"id":3618,"date":"2011-02-19T11:18:25","date_gmt":"2011-02-19T16:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/blogdivided\/?p=3618"},"modified":"2011-02-19T12:32:41","modified_gmt":"2011-02-19T17:32:41","slug":"recently-from-the-blogosphere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/blogdivided\/2011\/02\/19\/recently-from-the-blogosphere\/","title":{"rendered":"Recently From the Blogosphere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0935541\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3620\" title=\"Mary Elizabeth Winstead\" src=\"http:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/blogdivided\/files\/2011\/02\/winstead1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/blogdivided\/files\/2011\/02\/winstead1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/blogdivided\/files\/2011\/02\/winstead1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Noted blogger (and teacher) Kevin Levin recently had a <a href=\"http:\/\/cwmemory.com\/2011\/02\/12\/abraham-lincoln-saint-or-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\">feisty post<\/a> about Abraham Lincoln on the president&#8217;s 202 birthday that complained about a BBC plug for yet another a forthcoming Lincoln documentary.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Quoting from the press materials &#8211;&#8220;150 years after  the war his reputation is being re-assessed, as  historians begin to  uncover the dark side of his life and politics&#8221; &#8212; Levin responds, in mock disgust, &#8220;Give me a break.&#8221;\u00a0 He points out that Henry Gates did the same sort of video a few years earlier and &#8220;did a much better job.&#8221; The next day in his &#8220;Civil War Memory&#8221; blog, Levin asked the provocative question:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/cwmemory.com\/2011\/02\/13\/should-descendants-of-confederate-veterans-celebrate-lincolns-birthday\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Should Descendants of Confederate Soldiers Celebrate Lincoln&#8217;s Birthday?&#8221;<\/a> His answer &#8230; yes.<\/p>\n<p>Ted Widmer provides an <a href=\"http:\/\/opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/02\/11\/lincolns-birthday\/\" target=\"_blank\">elegant account<\/a> of Lincoln&#8217;s actual 52d birthday on February 12, 1861 in the <em>New York Times<\/em> blog &#8220;Disunion.&#8221;\u00a0 President-Elect Lincoln began the day in Indianapolis and ended up in Cincinnati where he received &#8220;a magnificent ovation.&#8221;\u00a0 Widmer calls it a &#8220;good day,&#8221; before noting poignantly that on that same day, Lincoln friend and political advisor Norman B.
