T. Barnum\u2019s American Museum in New York City burned down and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lostmuseum.cuny.edu\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lost Museum\u2019s interactive online exhibit<\/a> allows you to figure out who is responsible for the crime. Before you start the investigation, it helps to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lostmuseum.cuny.edu\/intro.html\" target=\"_blank\">watch the video introduction<\/a> or at least read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lostmuseum.cuny.edu\/how-to.html\" target=\"_blank\">this overview<\/a> of the exhibit. (You can also just skip the mystery part and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lostmuseum.cuny.edu\/barnum.html\" target=\"_blank\">explore<\/a> the 3-D museum).\u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/ashp.cuny.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Social History Project<\/a> at the City University of New York Graduate Center launched the site for use in the classroom and teachers can pick from a number of <a href=\"http:\/\/\" target=\"_blank\">different activities<\/a>, such as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/lm\/310\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Path to War?<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/lm\/228\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Brown, Violence, and Social Change<\/a>,\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/lm\/201\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Debate Over Women&#8217;s Roles in Public<\/a>.\u201d In addition, the <a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/searchlm.php\" target=\"_blank\">Lost Museum Archive<\/a> has a number of different types of primary sources available \u2013 these include those related to the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/searchlm.php?function=find&amp;exhibit=crisis&amp;browse=crisis\" target=\"_blank\">Sectional Crisis<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/searchlm.php?function=find&amp;exhibit=amusement&amp;browse=amusement\" target=\"_blank\">Amusement Devices<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/searchlm.php?function=find&amp;exhibit=nyc&amp;browse=nyc\" target=\"_blank\">Civil War in New York City<\/a>,\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/searchlm.php?function=find&amp;exhibit=thumb&amp;browse=thumb\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Thumb<\/a>.\u201d The <a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/classroom.php#essays\" target=\"_blank\">essays <\/a> are also important since they help put Barnum\u2019s museum in context \u2013 see especially \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/lm\/163\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barnum&#8217;s American Museum<\/a>,\u201d Ann Fabian\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/lm\/180\/\" target=\"_blank\">Women in P. T. Barnum&#8217;s New York City<\/a>,\u201d and Peter G. Buckley\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/lostmuseum\/lm\/278\/\" target=\"_blank\">Urban Popular Culture in the Age of Barnum<\/a>.\u201d Each essay includes links to relevant primary sources. This website was produced in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Center for History and New Media<\/a> at George Mason University, which created other digital history resources such as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/chnm.gmu.edu\/exploring-us-history\/\" target=\"_blank\">Exploring U.
