In nineteenth century America, the term <a href=\"http:\/\/hd.housedivided.dickinson.edu\/index.phpnode\/9589#tabset-1\">filibuster<\/a> took on a different tone. Instead, it referred to the violent and treasonous acts by Americans to extend slavery into Central and South America. A major figure in the filibuster was <a href=\"http:\/\/hd.housedivided.dickinson.edu\/index.phpnode\/6793\">William Walker<\/a>, \u201cthe grey-eyed man of destiny\u201d, who led several filibustering expeditions in Mexico and South America before being executed in Honduras in 1860.
