This action pushed Upper South states like North Carolina and Virginia to secede and join the Confederacy. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/historyculture\/fort_sumter.htm\" target=\"_blank\">National Park Service\u2019s website<\/a> on Fort Sumter provides a good place to start and learn more about this event. You can find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/photosmultimedia\/sumter.htm?eid=110285&amp;root_aId=94#\" target=\"_blank\">historic images<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/photosmultimedia\/sumter.htm?eid=110336&amp;root_aId=95#e_110336\" target=\"_blank\">modern day pictures<\/a> as well as information about their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/historyculture\/lisqexhibit.htm\" target=\"_blank\">education exhibit<\/a>. Teachers will want to look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/forteachers\/curriculummaterials.htm\" target=\"_blank\">curriculum material<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/forteachers\/lessonplansandteacherguides.htm\" target=\"_blank\">teachers guide<\/a>. In addition, the National Park Service has put together a variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/fosu\/historyculture\/fosu_docs.htm\" target=\"_blank\">documents and essays<\/a> that provide more background information on Fort Sumter. Another interesting site to check out is Tulane University\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tulane.edu\/~sumter\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crisis at Fort Sumter<\/a>,\u201d which provides a detailed timeline of what happened regarding Fort Sumter between December 1860 and April 1861. The timeline is divided into several different sections, such as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tulane.edu\/~sumter\/Dilemmas\/Dilemmas_intro.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dilemmas of Compromise<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tulane.edu\/~sumter\/FinalOrder\/FinalOrder_intro.html\" target=\"_blank\">Final Orders<\/a>.\u201d House Divided also has some material on the <a href=\"http:\/\/hd.housedivided.dickinson.edu\/node\/9607\" target=\"_blank\">Fort Sumter major topic page<\/a>, including historic images and a bibliography.
