After the engagement, President Abraham Lincoln issued the preliminary announcement of the emancipation proclamation. The National Park Service website on Antietam has a number of great resources, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/photosmultimedia\/gardnerphotos.htm\" target=\"_blank\">historic photographs <\/a>by Alexander Gardner, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/photosmultimedia\/hopepaintings.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Captain James Hope\u2019s paintings<\/a>, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/photosmultimedia\/antiquepostcards.htm\" target=\"_blank\">gallery of antique postcards<\/a>.  Teachers can find <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/forteachers\/curriculummaterials.htm\" target=\"_blank\">curriculum materials<\/a> as well \u2013 these include lesson plans, a primary sources packet, worksheets, and scavenger hunts. Visitors can also find a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/historyculture\/timeline.htm\" target=\"_blank\">nice timeline<\/a>, and details on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/historyculture\/army-of-potomac.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Army of the Potomac<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/historyculture\/army-n-virginia.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Army of Northern Virginia<\/a>.
