The House Divided research engine currently holds more than 2,500 historic maps free for educational use and sharing. Most of these maps come from carefully digitized and quite rare nineteenth-century gazetteers and almanacs. Hundreds of them have also been enhanced with a zoomify function that allows users to pan-and-zoom across the entire image, bringing them to life in a way that can be quite mesmerizing. Our collection also includes more modern-day battle and campaign maps that provide insight into the military history of the Civil War era.
