\nEvans wrote several books, including Inez: A Tale of the Alamo<\/a><\/em> (1855), Beulah<\/em> <\/a>(1859), Macaria; or Altars of Sacrifice<\/a><\/em> (1864), St. Elmo<\/a><\/em> (1867), Vashti; or, Until Death Us Do Part<\/a><\/em> (1869), Infelice<\/em> <\/a>(1875), and At the Mercy of Tiberius<\/a><\/em> (1887). Other important primary sources include Rebecca Grant Sexton’s \u00a0A Southern Woman of Letters: The Correspondence of Augusta Jane Evans Wilson<\/a><\/em> (2002). Some scholars have examined Evans’ \u00a0novels, including William Perry Fidler’s\u00a0Augusta Evans Wilson, 1835\u20131909: A Biography<\/em> (1951), Drew Gilpin Faust’s \u201cAltars of Sacrifice: Confederate Women and the Narratives of War,\u201d Journal of American History<\/em> (1990), and Anna Sophia Riepma’s\u00a0Fire and Fiction: Augusta Jane Evans in Context<\/a><\/em> (2000). \u00a0In addition, Evans has a profile at the online\u00a0Encyclopedia of Alabama<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Places to Visit<\/strong>
\nEvans is buried next to her brother in Magnolia Cemetery<\/a>, which is located at 1202 Virginia Street in Mobile, Alabama. This cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places<\/a> in 1986.<\/p>\n
