Colonel C.T. Trowbridge<\/a>, commander of the regiment.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor\u2019s account is remarkably vivid outlining the struggles of African American Union soldiers fighting in the South.\u00a0 She described how \u201cmen and even women would sneer and molest them whenever they met them\u201d while her regiment\u2019s \u201cbrave men risked life and limb\u201d to assist the citizens of Charleston, S.C. after the 1865 Confederate retreat and subsequent burning of the city.<\/p>\n<p>This a great online primary resource for anyone interested in the life of African American soldiers during the Civil War.
