Traveling the Underground Railroad

The National Park Service presents a website explaining the history of the Underground Railroad and listing sites throughout the United States, in twenty-one states. The site gives brief overviews of topics in the history of American slavery. For each site listed, a brief overview is given. Visiting information is given for sites open to the public.

Spare a moment to think about the people involved in the Underground Railroad. These people risked everything to help others. Real heroes in anyones book.

The NPS maps could be helpful for my 5th grade students.

The NPS website can give kids many “field trips” for finding information on actual underground railroad sites.
